My first FORD waterpump!

When I moved to Los Angeles, California from Chicago, Illinois, my older brother Dan, had a Ford F-250 with a 351 Windsor. As usual, when an 18 year old has better thing’s to do, a water pump takes a hike. Killing my Sunday at the beach, I dove rite into more than a can of worm’s.
The fact of not having a repair manual at all was only part of the equation. Taking it upon myself to hang and strap everything except the kitchen sink (it was in the back of the truck). By the time I was down to the pump it was almost dark. I continued under the heat of a 400 watt halogen that seemed to melt anything in front of it. I installed the pump and bolted these bracket’s that were attached to other bracket’s only on this particular Windsor design: the power steering pump, the smog pump, the a/c pump, and the alternator ! Every one of these component’s were bracketed to other bracket’s in one way or another. As a result of having literally no experience at all, I eventually got the F-250 back on the road, “with no leaks“!
My Point to this article is simple; It only goes to show that even after a grueling 7hour tour on the experience highway that, it matter’s how much finishing the task at
hand is of importance to the person’s credibility! Speaking of which, I’m suddenly
reminded of a recent employment search I was on long after graduating from college.
Once I was absolutely positively convinced that construction was not going to be a
source of employment for me anymore, getting over the fact of being 28 year’s old was
the next step. I saw a commercial on ESPN for U.T.I. (Universal Technical Institute).
After speaking to a recruiter I was convinced that U.T.I. was going to be my new home.
And Home it became. Through numerous personal changes (for the better) and decision’s left unsaid I finished my education at U.T.I.. I decided to extend my stay at school for an additional 9 week course attending Ford’s F.A.C.T. program. Being a student of Ford’s Accelerated Credential Training class was an extreme but well needed part of my curriculum. The objective in the F.A.C.T. program was to gain as many Electronic Credentials as possible in 9 week’s. Having nearly 25 student’s per class, studying 6 hour’s a day in class 5 day’s a week, taking the course serious was only part of the difficulty. Getting the 18 year old “know it all’s“ to understand that paying $18,000.00 to screw around in class could be unhealthy, wasn’t easy either! I am proud to say that being a graduate is a huge accomplishment, Paying it off is another.
While having been turned down by literally every company I applied with, including
Galpin Ford in Van Nuys Ca. for reasons of having little or no Experience. This seemed to be a hard to realize situation for friend’s and family to absorb . After having my vehicle stolen after rebuilding the entire thing in class and all my worldly belonging’s stolen as well, it only feel’s like a big “SLAP IN THE FACE“ to be turned away by my dreamteam at Galpin Ford! After numerous E–mail‘s sent to the webmasters at Gogalpin.com and having only one response saying , I was under qualified for the Technician Position. Still available to this day! ?????? I bet when they get done having a meeting regarding this article and see how much “Experience“ I have now, some head’s will be rolling and my e-mail bag will be full of invitation’s to interview with Ford’s
President, Bill Ford. Maybe/Maybe not?
